Bill Shaheen Joins McIntosh College Board of Trustees

(Dover, NH; May 1, 2007) Local attorney and community leader William H. Shaheen has joined the McIntosh College Board of Trustees.

Paul Flynn, Chairman of the McIntosh College Board of Trustees, said, “It's a great asset to have Billy join our board. He brings a wealth of experience, know-how and community leadership to the institution. We are proud to have him join us and believe that he will be of significant help to us as we continue to build on the college's historic role as a local educational and civic institution.”

William H. Shaheen is a native of Dover , New Hampshire and a graduate of the University of New Hampshire . Before earning his law degree from the University of Mississippi he served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain.

Along with his successful civil trial and business law practice, Bill is very active in politics. He co-chaired the successful 1976 New Hampshire presidential primary campaign for Jimmy Carter. In 1977, President Carter appointed him as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Hampshire. At that time, he was the youngest U.S. Attorney in the country. After leaving his post as U.S. Attorney, he opened a Dover , New Hampshire based law firm.

In 1981, Governor Hugh Gallen appointed Bill as Judge of the Durham District Court. Bill presided over the Durham District Court for fifteen years until 1996 when he resigned to focus on his wife Jeanne's three successful campaigns for Governor of New Hampshire. In 1999 and 2000, he served as Chairman of Vice President Al Gore's successful New Hampshire 2000 presidential primary campaign.

McIntosh College President Michael Hoyle said, “Billy brings a lot to the school. His experience as a U.S Attorney and District Court Judge is particularly significant as our school's criminal justice and paralegal programs develop, and as a local business leader I know he will help guide McIntosh's business and professional programs.” Hoyle added, “It is one of my goals as the school's new President to strengthen our role in the local community. As a native of the area, a local business and political leader, and a strong voice for the seacoast, we know that Billy will not only help lead our school, but will help keep us focused on our mission, our students, and our community.”

McIntosh College is a private, degree granting post-secondary college located in Dover , New Hampshire . McIntosh College offers a variety of associate degrees. McIntosh College was founded in 1896, and has continually operated in Dover , playing an important role in the region's evolving career education landscape. Today the college enrolls nearly one thousand students from around the country. In 1999, McIntosh College became part of the Career Education Corporation's community of schools.

McIntosh College 's programs currently include Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice, Medical Assisting, Paralegal Studies, Graphic Design, Professional Photography, Accounting, Business Management, Massage Therapy and Fashion Merchandising. In 2006, McIntosh entered into an articulation agreement with New Hampshire 's Plymouth State University in which course credit can be transferred to PSU for Graphic Design and Criminal Justice. McIntosh College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC).
