McIntosh College/Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Compete at Northeast Regional Competition

March 21, 2006— Dover , New Hampshire.—

On March 12, 2006 a McIntosh College student and alumnus competed in the Northeast Regional Competition Jeune Commis (Young Apprentices) of the Chaine Des Rotisseur at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI . As two of the 9 competitors for the region, they prepared 4 plates each of a three course dinner from a mystery basket provided by the competition committee. Both came away from the competition with recognition of committee's review and Bronze medals.

Ben Hasty is a recent graduate of the Atlantic Culinary Academy —the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Program at McIntosh College. He did his externship with Chef Thomas Keller at The French Laundry in Napa, CA, worked at Arrows in Ogunquit, ME, and is currently cooking at Dunaway Restaurant at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth, NH, one of the best up and coming restaurants in the area.

Sam Dunkel is one of the top Atlantic Culinary Academy honors students, and as a member of the Junior Competition Team, has been invaluable as a trainer and floor coach for newer team members. He is about to move on to his externship with Chef Jason Hicks at Orsay restaurant in New York City.

“Ben and Sam exemplify the drive, passion and technique that is required to be a Le Cordon Bleu chef.” Jim Gallivan, Executive Chef and Director of Education at the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Program at McIntosh College stated, “It has been a real joy to see the steady development of these young culinarians as they are realizing their career goals”.
